The Capture is the ninth episode of the first season of the Animorphs, and the first of a two-part episode. Along with The Capture (Part 2), it is loose adaptation of the book of the same name. It originally aired on November 3, 1998. It was directed by William Fruet and written by Neal Shusterman.

Synopsis[]

Jake's dad has been planning the installation of a new health clinic at the local hospital. On the eve of the grand opening, Jake discovers that the clinic's most generous benefactor is...a Yeerk! The Animorphs must infiltrate the clinic before the Governor, the clinic's special guest, is infected!.[1]

Plot[]

Trivia[]

  • This is the first appearance of Jake's parents Greg and Nikki. However, in the book series they are named Steve Berenson and Jean Berenson.
  • Ax reveals two new powers in this episode that are never fully explained or used again. These powers include hair that demagnetizes and a finger that can encrypt.
  • This is the first episode Visser Three appears in in which he is not seen in his Andalite form at all. From this episode onward, he is not seen in his Andalite form unless the plot of the episode specifically requires him to be.

Goofs/Inconsistencies[]

  • Despite the second part of this two-part episode being named "The Capture (Part 2)", the title card for this episode simply reads as "The Capture".
  • While the Animorphs acquire and morph cockroaches this episode, they have already morphed cockroaches in The Escape to escape the Bio-Filter.
    • While The Capture aired, and takes place, chronologically after The Escape, the production codes show that it was filmed before the latter episode, which may explain the inconsistency of them acquiring cockroach morphs here despite already having them without explanation during the events of The Escape.
