Jake is a founding member and the leader of the Animorphs. He is son of Nikki and Greg, the younger brother of Tom, and cousin of Rachel and Sara.[4]
Biography[]
Pre-Animorph Life[]
Jake was the long-term best friend of Marco. He was also close with his cousin Rachel and her best friend Cassie.[6]
Meeting Elfangor[]
One night while playing video games with Marco at Cyberia, Rachel and Cassie met them after Rachel's gymnastics meet. When Homer suddenly ran off, the quartet chased him down in an old plant, where they met Tobias and witnessed an alien spaceship crashing. After the crash, a blue alien named Elfangor exited the ship and revealed the Yeerks secret invasion of Earth and gave the five teens the power to morph. With Visser Three and the Yeerks arriving to kill Elfangor, the teens ran. Everyone was able to runaway, but Jake was cornered with Homer by a Hork-Bajir. By acquiring and morphing Homer, Jake was able to escape, but not before witnessing a Controller call the others incompetent and scratch his leg with his boot. The next day, at school, Jake met the others at lunch and told them about morphing Homer. After a disturbance occurred, he noticed Principal Chapman order the staff to stop it, before calling them incompetent and scratching his leg with the same boot as the Controller in the construction site. He realized from this that Chapman was the Controller, and warned the others not to trust anyone else.[7]
Becoming an Animorph[]
The day after meeting Elfangor, the Animorphs met at school and then convened at Cassie's Barn where they all practiced morphing and discussed what to do next. With Jake unanimously nominated as the leader, the Animorphs devised a plan to retrieve Elfangor's disc.
That night, Jake met Marco at his house, before going to the construction site to meet Rachel and Cassie. They witnessed Rachel morph a cat and find the disc, and he then helped Cassie disguise herself as an Andalite while Marco lured the Controllers to them. Following this, leaving Cassie to occupy them, he morphed Homer again and dug up the disc while Rachel kept a lookout. Unfortunately, Chapman, instead of following Cassie with the other Controllers, went to report in and saw them. He chased them, and they hid in a pipe too small for him to enter, so he blocked the exit and called for help. Fortunately, before help could arrive, he was attacked by Tobias in hawk form, allowing Jake and Rachel to escape to the woods and demorph. They regrouped with Marco and Cassie, and discovered that Tobias was the hawk that saved them. Not knowing what the disc was for, Jake decided to keep it overnight and that they would try it out tomorrow, before the Animorphs left for home.[1]
