Cause

Killed during Yeerk raid

Aldrea-Iskillion-Falan was an Andalite female who intentionally became a Hork-Bajir nothlit. She was the eldest daughter of Seerow, the wife of the Hork-Bajir Seer, Dak Hamee, grandmother to Jara Hamee and great-grandmother to Toby Hamee. Aldrea and her husband Dak were the founding members of the Hork-Bajir resistance against the Yeerks on the Hork-Bajir homeworld. After her death, Aldrea would assist the Animorphs through her ixcila.

Biography

Life on the Hork-Bajir homeworld

After her father Seerow's infamous act of kindness to the Yeerks, Aldrea was forced to move with him and her mother and brother, Barafin, to an unimportant world, designated Sector 5, RG-21578-4. This world was home to the Hork-Bajir, who, despite their fearsome, bladed appearance, were arboreal herbivores, content to live peacefully in their massive tree homes.

Aldrea befriended a Hork-Bajir named Dak Hamee. Dak was "different" from other Hork-Bajir - he was a Seer, a rare genetic anomaly with more intelligence than the average Hork-Bajir. Even though she knew she shouldn't, Aldrea told him about her life, her people and her family, and showed him the morphing technology. Dak, in turn, showed Aldrea the simple life that his people led, high in the trees, harvesting bark.

Soon after Aldea met Dak, the Yeerks arrived, intending to conquer and enslave the Hork-Bajir. Sensing an Andalite presence on the planet, they fired their Dracon Beams from orbit, destroying Aldrea's home and killing her family. Fighting off the Yeerk Esplin 9466 and his forces, who had begun to infest Hork-Bajir, Aldrea and Dak escaped to an area of the planet known as "Father Deep". There, they discovered monsters and settlements built by another species inhabiting the planet called the Arn.

The Arn revealed that they had created the Hork-Bajir to care for the trees above; without the trees to provide atmospheric balance, the Arn could not survive. Aldrea used this knowledge to pressure the Arn into creating more monsters to fight the Yeerks with. During the ensuing battle, Aldrea was able to get a message to the Andalite home world, and later, an Andalite force led by Alloran-Semitur-Corrass arrived.

However, Alloran soon tired of the seemingly hopeless guerilla warfare that his small force was forced to conduct against the much larger Yeerk force. He used the Arn's technology to create a Quantum Virus that would kill all Hork-Bajir, denying them as hosts to the Yeerks. Aldrea discovered his plan and she and Dak worked to prevent the virus's release. However, due to Yeerk intervention, they were unsuccessful, and the virus was released throughout the planet, killing a huge percentage of the population. During these events, Aldrea morphed a Hork-Bajir female named Delf Hajool and, accidentally or intentionally, stayed too long in morph, trapping herself and becoming a nothlit. The Andalite forces soon abandoned the Hork-Bajir world to the Yeerks, leaving Aldrea behind.[1]

Aldrea and Dak married and had a son, whom they named Seerow after Aldrea's father. Two years after his birth, they were rooted out and killed by the Yeerks, and Seerow was made a Controller. Before they died, both Aldrea and Dak agreed to make a record of their memories and personalities - known as an ixcila - and had an Arn named Quafijinivon store them in his lab.[2]

Temporary resurrection

Quafijinivon eventually traveled to Earth, bringing with him Aldrea's Ixcila; Dak's had been destroyed by Yeerk forces. He contacted the Animorphs, announcing his plan to create a new colony of free Hork-Bajir on their home world. But to make the plan viable, he needed access to a stash of weapons hidden by Aldrea before her death. The Animorphs agreed to let one of their number - or Aldrea's great-granddaughter Toby Hamee - serve as the host for Aldrea's Ixcila. The person chosen to serve as host was Cassie, who found herself having to share her mind and body with Aldrea.

The Animorphs and Toby traveled to the Hork-Bajir homeworld with Quafijinivon in a stolen Yeerk ship, and were successful in landing on the planet without detection by the Yeerk forces. Aldrea revealed that she did not know exactly where the hidden weapons cache was, as it had been hidden after the Ixcila had been made, but she was able to guide them to the place where she would have hidden them. In the process of gaining access to the hidden cache, the Animorphs entered into battle with the Yeerks and destroyed a large Yeerk pool. After giving the weapons to Quafijinivon, Aldrea realised that she could not let her great-granddaughter Toby remain on the planet to lead his force of free Hork-Bajir, and conspired with Cassie to make it seem as though she was trying to seize full control of her mind. The Animorphs took Toby with them back to Earth as "insurance", to force Aldrea to "back down", and Aldrea's Ixcila returned to its storage in Quafijinivon's lab.[2]

Personality

Aldrea wanted to serve in the Andalite military to fight the Yeerks directly, but was not able to due to the Andalite gender bias at the time - traditionally, males served in the military, while females served in the research sciences and technology. She was mocked and ridiculed by other Andalites because of her father's actions on the Yeerk homeworld, known as "Seerow's Kindness"; many of her peers referred to her as "Seerow's Unkindness". Aldrea was quite brave and independant, yet also caring towards the Hork-Bajir and Dak, to the extent that she not only sided with the Hork-Bajir over the Andalites when she learned of Alloran's plan to release a quantum virus, but deliberately morphed a Hork-Bajir to show her loyalty even though she would have thus been at risk of death when the virus was released.
